Denver's art scene is growing fast! With new studios and galleries of every style and taste popping up around the city,...
Denver might be known for its mountains and western traditions, but those who dismiss the city's cultural offerings are missing out on its best-kept secret. Denver has a thriving art community that is quickly establishing itself as one of the West's best art scenes. The Denver Art Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art are widely known for their collections and architecture. Those looking for the latest up-and-coming artists and contemporary works need look no further than Denver's many art districts.
The Art District on Santa Fe is Denver's contemporary art epicenter. Located on Santa Fe Drive just south of downtown, this area of galleries, studios, and restaurants has been integral in revitalizing the area and cultivating the arts. Its close proximity to downtown Denver and the State Capitol make it the perfect starting point for a art-themed tour of the city.
The nearby Golden Triangle Museum District bridges the gap between the galleries on Santa Fe and Denver's acclaimed museums. The Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art and the Denver Art Museum are just two of the many institutions located alongside the district's independent art galleries.
Just north of downtown, the River North Art District represents one of Denver's newest communities of working artists. Here visitors can browse galleries and studios within an easy walk of LoDo, Coors Field, and the entertainment district on Larimer.
For an entirely different, yet still entirely Denver feel, head over the Platte to the Highlands neighborhood. This area of Denver contains some of Denver's trendiest boutiques, bars, and restaurants. It's also home to an emerging gallery scene. The Navajo Street Art District is a small yet vibrant group of artist co-ops and art spaces just a short walk from the Highland Bridge. Further northwest, the Tennyson Street Art District in the Berkeley neighborhood features its own group of galleries and specialty stores. The tree-lined streets of these old neighborhoods provide an interesting contrast to the urban atmosphere of downtown Denver's other art districts.
The best way to see what Denver's art scene has to offer is to plan a trip around the art walks scheduled for the first Friday of every month. Each art district's First Friday celebration is unique, well-attended, and free! For more information, see the highlighted attractions on Ettractions.com.
