Geauga County is the closest Amish Community to Cleveland, Ohio, located approx. 30 miles east of the downtown area it is the perfect addition to any trip to the area or as a stand alone destination. Visit the Amish shops and marvel at the handcrafted products such as furniture, quilts, handbags, old fashioned toys and Amish dolls. Be sure to bring a cooler for all of the goodies you will encounter on your travels. There are two wonderful cheese factories to visit, Middlefield Cheese, which ships world-wide and the Middlefield Original Cheese Co-op which is Amish owned and operated. Amish Home Craft & Bakery and Countryside Bakery offer delectable Amish made bakery. You will find Amish made jams & jellies, and bulk stores with products that will take you back to the days of Grandma’s kitchen.
Geauga County is also rich in history with Geauga County Historical Society’s Century Village with 22 historical buildings on their grounds to tour. Antique shops dot the countryside and small family owned retail shops welcome you warmly. Combine both for a visit to Fowlers Milling Company, a working grist mill built in 1834 and still producing stone ground goodies like pancake mix & cobbler toppings. Richards Maple Products has also been selling everything Maple for the past 100 years. Geauga County is the largest producer of Maple products in the state and features maple sugaring events & pancake breakfasts in February and March.
Geauga Park District offers amazing programming on birding, hiking and biking throughout the year. With so much to see it is a great location for a get-away weekend or mini-vacation.
