Events and happenings occuring in the City of Brotherly Love are often referenced as being part of specific neighborhoods. Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods. The architecture, restaurants, nightlife, and residential demographics of the different neighborhoods is both unique and distinct. The types of cultural and nightlife events and other attractions vary widely between Philadelphia's neighborhoods. About Art Museum / Fairmount Area The Art Museum Area or "Fairmount" Area (includes Fairmount Park and Logan Square) consists of Girard Avenue, Spring Garden Street, and Broad Street (to the beginning of Fairmount Park). Museums The Philadelphia Museum of Art is, of course, the primary museum within the Art Museum Area of Philadelphia. It's the most well-known and largest art museum in the entire Philadelphia region. It features some of the best collections and most interesting special exhibits in the world. Be sure to review the current events, shows, and exhibits before you arrive. Of particular note, the "Art After 5" event features live jazz music, wine and spirits, fine cuisine, and special tours. There was a "Parisian" tour a few weeks ago that was absolutely outstanding! It was a wonderful way to learn about and better understand how the history of French art and architechure has evolved. The Barnes Foundation is moving soon to the Art Museum Area. Dr. Albert Barnes' foundation has a spectacularly impressive collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and early Modernist paintings. Masterpieces by Renior, Cezanne, and Matisse are all part of the permanent collection at The Barnes Foundation, an educational institution that welcomes visitors and student year-round. The Barnes Foundation is a wonderful learning tool for the young and old with an interest in French impressionist and post-impressionist drawings and paintings. For the largest collection of Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) figurative sculptures you can find and see, without traveling to France, the Rodin Museum features many of his most prominent and renowned works. The Thinker is one of his works that you will surely see! Also, while there, meander through the museum's garden and wonder at the beauty of the Rodin Gardens. Other museums are currently available to visit in the Art Museum Area as well. They include: Please Touch Museum (for children) Moore College of Art The Franklin Institute Academy of National Sciences Free Library of Philadelphia Parks Logan Square is one of the city's five original planned squares. In the center is the Logan Circle with the Swann Fountain. Fairmount Park has 63 parks, for a total of 9,200 acres. It's the largest city park in the United States! The park is an absolutley awesome place to bike, jog, or walk! There are paths and the scenery is beautiful! Music The Mann Music Center in Fairmount Park holds lots of concerts in the summer and fall months. Summary All in all, the Art Museum Area is very walkable to City Hall and to the business district of the city. Restaurants are plentiful and very diverse. This is the must-see of all must-see parts of the city!
