The area consists of the northern portion of Fairmount Park's Cresheim Creek, the western portion of Wissahickon Creek, the north side of Northwestern Avenue, and the east side of Stenton Avenue. Chestnut Hill's population is approximately 10,000. Chestnut Hill is an official Historic District and there are lots of architecturally and/or historically important residences, parks, gardens, and museums in the area. Chestnut Hill College is a very well-regarded co-ed Catholic college located there. Attractions The Pastorius Park will make for a relaxing day to walk or jog or to perhaps eat a picnic basket lunch. Live theatre plays are presented at Stagecrafters Theater. The Morris Arboretum is the official arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania. There, you will see some of the oldest, rarest, and largest trees of Philadelphia. They also present 13,000 plants from all over the world to view! The Woodmere Art Museum focuses on American paintings and decorative arts. Charles Demuth in the City of Lights, Violet Oakley and the Women Artists of Paris, and Sam Maitin Prints and Places are current special exhibitions. For your children, there is the Millard Children's Exhibitions, perfect for introducing your kids to wonders and beauty of fine art. Summary The Chestnut Hill area is definitely worthy of a visit, though it will take about a 20-minute drive from the center city.
