When the sun comes out, so does the golden ale. The warm weather is here is Ontario and what better way to cool off than an ice-cold beer. This summer is shaping up to be a beer-lovers dream in the Distillery District of Toronto. With so many different ways to tour local breweries, there’s no reason why you can’t indulge in a day that even Homer Simpson would be proud of.
Start your day at Toronto’s Steam Whistle Brewery. Learn how Canada's Premium Pilsner is made, meet the friendly staff and enjoy a sample of Steam Whistle beer. You'll learn why Steam Whistle was designated one of Toronto's "green buildings" and about their railway history. With four different tours to choose from, you can definitely find something to quench your thirst. Summer tours happen Monday to Saturday hourly from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Sunday’s 1 to 4 p.m., and costs range from $8 for a souvenir tour to $23 for the 12 pack tour.
Next stop on the Beer Train should be Mill Street Brewery. Mill Street has over 100 years of experience producing handcrafted beers in an area once celebrated for its beer. Head on down to their BrewPub and taste one of their 13 beers on tap. Priding themselves on having something to suit everyone’s taste, Mill Street Brewery is sure to have cold one that will please your palette.
And now for something completely different; rather than tours, Amsterdam Brewery offers what they call “Tasting and Product Knowledge Sessions” instead. Hop on the TTC or drive down to Amsterdam Brewery and join them for a tasting of their golden ale. They’ll show you the brewing process and let you sample some of the fine lagers and ales they are currently brewing. You’ll also see how their beers are made. With over ten different styles and flavours on tap, Amsterdam Brewery is the perfect stop for the connoisseur. Cost of a session is $10 per person.
