The Serra Museum, overlooking Old Town on Presidio Hill, commemorates the site of the original San Diego mission. George W. Marston, who funded the museum’s construction by architect William Templeton Johnson in 1928, donated the site to the city, which gave the San Diego Historical Society control of its operations. The mission-style architecture of the Serra features exhibitions on early Native Americans as well as the Spanish Colonial period.
