The museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting African American art and collectibles in Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Americas. We delight in telling the triumphant story of African Americans in all its aspects: political, religious, family life, the Civil Rights movement, arts and entertainment, sports, medicine, architecture, law and technology. The AAMP is the first museum founded by a municipality dedicated to the preservation of African American culture.
