The Old State House is the oldest surviving public building in Boston. Built in 1713 to house government offices of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, it was a bustling meeting place. After the Revolution, the building served as the Massachusetts State House, and later as Boston's City Hall. It has been called one of the most important public buildings in U.S. history. Today, the Bostonian Society operates a history museum within its walls, featuring exhibits on the Revolution, the Boston Massacre, and Boston history up to the present day. |
