October 2017 Fun in Boston

Check Out These Top Picks for Fun Events This Month

Fall is in full swing in Boston and the city is chock-full of seasonal events. Pumpkin picking, apple cider, and haunted festivities are around every corner. Check out these top picks for activities this October, or find the full calendar here.

Haunted Happenings - Salem, MA

The 1692 Salem Witch Trials made the city infamous around the world, and today, Salem, MA is a Halloween hotspot, attracting thousands of visitors every year. Salem's annual Halloween celebration, Haunted Happenings, features hundreds of events throughout the entire month of October, most of which are family-friendly. Festivities kick off on October 5 with the Twenty-Second Annual Grand Parade. Other highlights include family-friendly programming on "Wicked Wednesdays", free family movie nights on Fridays, street fairs, and trick-or-treating.

Flashlight Maze - Connors Farm

The annual corn maze at Connors Farm, located just north of Boston in Danvers, MA, is a New England fall tradition that attracts visitors from all over the region. The massive seven-acre corn maze is one of the largest in New England, while the farm also boasts plenty of activities to fill an entire day, including hayrides, bounce houses, barnyard animals, and duck races. On Friday and Saturday evenings in October, the maze is open after dark for one of the creepiest Halloween events in Boston. The Flashlight Maze is not staffed by actors and is not haunted, but try not to look twice at the shadows on the path while exploring this dark, isolated corn field.

Haunted Boston Ghost Tour

Haunted Boston's popular Ghost Tour takes visitors through the streets of Boston and explores the darker side of Boston's history. These ninety-minute walking tours depart nightly at 8:00 PM and are appropriate for children ages eight and up. Tour participants will visit many of the city's most iconic haunted spots, including the Omni Parker House, the Boston Common, the Old Granary Burying Ground, and the Boston Athenaeum.

Beacon Hill with a Boo! Tour - Boston By Foot

Going on its thirtieth year, Boston By Foot's annual Beacon Hill with a Boo! Tour is one of the tour company's most popular events. This ninety-minute walking tour leads visitors through the quiet residential streets and dark alleys of Beacon Hill, which is famous in the city for its elaborate Halloween decorations and hoards of costumed trick or treaters. Boston By Foot's tour guides share tales from the neighborhood's sordid past and expose the mayhem and mystery that lurk just beneath the surface. Hear stories about witches, serial killers, ghosts, and more.
