The Augusta Canal weaves threads of history, scenery and recreation into a delightful tapestry as it winds its way through Augusta Georgia. Miles of trails, sparkling waterways, and fact-and-fun-filled guided boat tours let you explore and learn.

Augusta Canal is a National Heritage Area, affiliated with the National Park Service. It dates back to 1845 and is the nation's only power canal still in use for its original purpose.

Visit the Augusta Canal Discovery Center at Enterprise Mill for an interactive introduction to the canal story and board the daily guided boat tours. Hike or bike on the trails edging the canal past natural and urban landscapes, or paddles the gentle waters of this historic and scenic national treasure.

Discovery Center Tours closed Sunday and Monday in December - March and July - August. 

Trails open from dawn to dusk year round.

Tour boats are open to the weather so dress accordingly. 

Fun Facts

Augusta Canal's mascot is the Yellow Belly Slider Turtle. Be sure to watch for them basking on fallen logs in the canal.

This is the site of the Civil War error Confederate Powder Works, source of most of the South's gunpowder. Look for the big chimney on the tour.
