The Negaunee Foundation Children's Literature Gallery features a mural created by celebrated illustrator and author Paul O. Zelinsky. The mural depicts forty-two squirrels intensely engaged in reading thirty-four books that represent significant milestones in American Children's literature.

In Story of the Day, visitors can write stories using paper and pencil, typewriters, or digital media and post it on the museum's story wall or add it to the online story of the day.

The museum has a Word Waterfall, an immersive experience that combines a dynamic animation of words, accompanying imagery, and a soundscape.
