Insider Info

Come prepared for fun in the sun and to get a little wet from the drip and splash of your paddle.  Lightweight, synthetic clothing is best.  Try to avoid cotton, but most guests come in shorts and a T-shirt.  Storage is available for your belongings at all three locations.

There is free parking at our River location and Montrose Beach.  Public transportation is also available with "L" stops close to each location, or ride your bike, with bike racks at each location.  If you do drive, remember, you are parking in Chicago, so do not leave valuables in your car.

Cameras are great to capture your adventure!  We do provide zip lock bags to give a little more water resistance or put your things in a dry bag to ensure they don't get wet.

Fun Facts

This area was home to many Native American tribes that paddled these waterways by Canoe. The city as we know it, "Chicago" was first explored by French explorers in a birch bark canoe, just like our replica 19 passenger Voyageur Canoe.  Today, the river is explored by thousands, by kayak and canoe.

Kayak Chicago is the go-to company for media, celebrities, travel shows, movies and new stories.  We have graced the bright screen more than 30 times over the years, and been in numerous magazines and books.

The Chicago River was neglected for many years, leaving only one species of fish, the carp.  Today, the city has embraced the river and we now have over 60 species of fish, turtles, beaver, muskrats, and otters, changing the river from an industrial waterway to a recreational gem.
