The county is complete with 35 mountain peaks, the famous Shawangunk Ridge, and 350 miles of trails for hiking, climbing, and biking during the more seasonable months. There’s golfing at picturesque courses, fishing in cold mountain streams as well as snow-shoeing, skiing, snowboarding, skating, and maple sugaring.

Metro North runs frequent, convenient service from Grand Central Station to nearby Poughkeepsie, NY, seven days a week. Service is fast and easy, and Ulster County runs supporting bus service to and from the Poughkeepsie train station.

Four-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Levon Helm called Woodstock home prior to his passing in 2012. Helm hosted many Midnight Rambles at his home and studio, “The Barn,” in Woodstock and was joined by many famous singers, including Elvis Costello.

There are more than 35 peaks and 350 miles of trails to hike and bike in Ulster County.

The Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston is one of the few pre-World War II performance theaters left in the Hudson Valley, built in 1926 and reopened in 2002 after extensive renovations.
