The zoo's mascot, Bubby the Bison, is named in tribute to the zoo's former Board President and donor, Morton "Bubby" Weiss.

The Elmwood Park Zoo financially supports conservation efforts from the Titi Conservation Alliance, The Red Panda Network, the American Bird Conservancy, Northern Jaguar Project, El Centro Chaqueño para la Conservación e Investigación, and Monterey Bay Aquarium's "Seafood Watch".
