The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is was built in honor of members of the US armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War, died in service in Vietnam and South East Asia during the war, and service members who were Missing In Action during the War. The memorial is located alongside the National Mall, close to the Lincoln Memorial.
The main part of the memorial was finished in 1982 in Constitution Gardens and northeast of the Lincoln Memorial. Approximately 3 million people visit the site each year. Since its construction, additions to the memorial complex have been made, resulting in a memorial of three separate parts, including the Three Soldiers statue, the Vietnam Women's Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.
The wall is the most well-known section of the memorial and includes 58,195 names. The statue of three servicemen debuted in 1984 and depicts three soldiers of different races.
